London psych/shoegaze outfit Teen Brains are set to release the new Translucent EP on September 12th via Witchgirl Recordings (UK) and Citrus City Records (USA).

Their matured direction sees them explore a more lucid, psychedelic leaning within their insatiable brand of shoegaze. Clash Magazine premiered the title-track from the EP and described as “bright, vivid, psych-pop tones matched to breezy, almost surf-style guitar lines that etch a place in your imagination.”

Drawing influences from bands like The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Cure and early Verve, songs are later distilled into their absolute fundamentals. A rush of screeching fuzz and whiney guitars – ‘In A Haze’can only be described as a chaotic flush of noise below the muffled vocals of Tyler Darrington and a layer of crackling distortion.

Yet following this raucous opener, ‘Isolation’drifts through its 3 minute duration with a contrastingly steady breeze, with warm vocals that bring a breath of fresh air into the Beach Fossils-esque dreamy chords. After the bouncing bass and teetering rhythm that pulls ‘Wash Away’into its chorus amidst a shimmering blur of ride cymbals and ‘Oohs’. EP closer ‘Translucent’ has a quiet yet potent beginning that dines on silky, tripped-out guitars and muffled vocals – its sugary slacker sound sending you deep into a daydream before the track erupts into a whirlwind of screeching fuzz, wailing guitars and distorted, crackling samples.

TEEN BRAINS

Primal Music described it as “a stunning, slow burning psychedelic jaunt through layers of woozy guitar squall, melodious chord progressions & sublime vocalisations that are all steeped in glorious reverberation.”

“there’s a definite glow of sun-soaked surf rock in their reverberating, spiralling riffs and stoned vocals but with an undercurrent of shoegaze melancholy” POND.

The new EP follows on from 2015’s Self-Titled EP which was released on cassette via Chud Records (UK) and Citrus City Records (US), it was described by Gold Flake Paint as “a blazingly forthright blast of skewed guitar pop, which just might be the sound of the best new guitar band on these shores”. Prior to that Teen Brains released the single ‘Flume’ on London/Leeds imprint Beech Coma which helped put them on the radar of those with a love for all things fuzzy, they were consequently pinned as ones to watch by NME who described the cut as being “soaked in reverb with a woozy nod to psychedelia”

In January 2016 Teen Brains went on a completely sold-out UK tour with Turnover (US / RFC Records) and Claws, in support of the tour the band self-released a new single titled ‘Wash Away’ which has been re-recorded for the new EP. In February 2015 the band played two sold out shows as main support for Peace and have done a load of headline shows over the UK, sharing bills with Menace Beach, Beach Baby, Blossoms, Best Friends, Bloody Knees and Abattoir Blues to name just a few.
