Bright Side Gallery is proud to present ‘Solar’; the first large solo exhibition of Synchrodogs in the Netherlands.

24 March – 15 May 2016

The artist duo Synchrodogs originates from the Ukraine, where Tania Shcheglova (1989) and Roman Noven (1984) fell in love and started to work together as professional artists under one name. The name Synchrodogs – under which the duo works since 2008 – comes from their shared love for nature and the unification of two people.
The bulk of their photographic work features portraits of Tania shot by Roman. The relation between the human act and nature is the central focus point in their oeuvre. For this matter, the artists travel thousands of miles to desolate places in the world to explore the unknown and the undiscovered. Embedded in the photographs are common themes of nudity, primitivism, eccentricity, human nature and excruciation used to make sociological statements. In their works Synchrodogs mix Western and Ukrainian/Byzantine tradition, with references to folklore and local art.

The photographs are pure, intimate, symbolic and full of instinct, capturing the subject with a ‘hardcore flash’ that endows an image with the effects of modernity making it stand as if it is taken in an instant moment and immediacy. From their images comes a melancholic and mystic atmosphere together with a certain discomfort. In their often eerie and dark pictures questions arise about our current position in the world and the role we are wishing to adapt.

Despite the fact that Synchrodogs have only collaborated since 2008, their photography has already been exhibited widely around the world at institutions such as the Chelsea College of Art and Design (London, UK), SBK Gallery (Dordrecht, NL), Spazio Punch gallery (Venice, IT), Public Works Gallery (Chicago, USA), Pinchuk Art Centre and Lavra Gallery (Kiev, UA), among many others. Their latest body of work ‘Supernatural’ has been presented in a solo exhibition at Dallas Contemporary Art Museum (Dallas, USA).

The emerging artistic duo have excelled in major art competitions, including winning first prize in Arts Rebels x Canon and the art photography award for Ukraine from Harper’s Bazaar in 2011. Their work has been published in numerous magazines such as New York Magazine, Dazed and Confused, Vice, Esquire and Jalouse.
During the exhibition Bright Side presents works from the series ‘Animalism Naturalism’ (2012), ‘Reverie Sleep’ (2014) and their latest project ‘Supernatural’ (2015).
