Image District – an exhibition on digital versus analogue photography Amsterdam, 20th of August 2015 – New Dawn, De Fotohal and Volkshotel present ‘Image District’ – a playground for upcoming photography talent. This mini photo festival presents an exhibition showcasing fresh artists, a special edition of De Donkere Kamer and the premiere of a short documentary. Expect work by newly arisen talents, experimentation and unconventional photography. Image District is part of the official Unseen festival programme and takes place 18-20 September at Volkshotel. From street photography to stylised compositions At Image District, four different collectives show their best work – all inspired by the theme ‘Analog versus Digital’. Talented underdogs explore the boundaries of the medium through means of photography, video, projections and installations. From street photography by Amsterdam based collective Ed Amsterdam, to the stylised work of the artist duo Sisters Not Twins. Gallery Vriend van Bavink presents visual artists like Noel Loozen and Aisha Zeijpveld, whilst No Man’s Art Gallery crosses international borders by introducing a South-African photographer whose work will be part of a new concept called Art In The Dark. Don’t forget to bring a flashlight… Pitches and documentaries Saturday night, New Dawn organises a special edition of De Donkere Kamer (DDK) in collaboration with DuPho. During this evening the main focus is upcoming talent; think of photographers like Carlijn Jacobs, Linelle Deunk, Jan Hoek and Anouk Kruithof. As per usual, three photographers are offered the chance to pitch a new photo project. The winner (selected by the audience) takes home pocket money to fund their idea. ED Amsterdam hosts a short documentary screening on Sunday afternoon, focusing on the life of Maarten van der Kamp – an upcoming photographer who wanders the streets in search of interesting shots. Opening Image District opens on the 18th of September with a festive evening programme.
