VINTAGE RED CAKE

This video is not a recipe. It is a portrait of an imaginary character.
Time and space are surreal, they flow in the shape of memories when emotions are tied to small details and intimate sensations, such as the feeling for food and its taste.

PUNK @ METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART NYC

punk

The exhibition PUNK starts the 9th of May at the Metropolitan Mueseum of Art NYC.

The Costume Institute’s next exhibition swerves to the streets and clubs of New York and London, then to ateliers and runways with PUNK: Chaos to Couture. It will examine punk’s impact from the 1970s to its continuing influence on high fashion now.

The exhibition will feature approximately one hundred designs for men and women. Original punk garments from the mid-1970s will be juxtaposed with recent fashion to show how haute couture and ready-to-wear borrow punk’s symbols, with the traditional paillettes being replaced with safety pins, feathers with razor blades, and bugle beads with studs. Punk’s “do-it-yourself” concepts will be contrasted with couture’s “made-to-measure” mindset. Visitors will see the materials and techniques of PUNK in an immersive multimedia gallery experience where the clothes will be animated with music videos and soundscaping.

The six gallery sections will include “Rebel Heroes” (think mid-seventies New York and London, with The Ramones, Sex Pistols, and The Clash), “Couturiers Situationists” (via Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood’s 430 King’s Road boutique), “Pavilions of Anarchy and Elegance” (punk versus haute couture hand craftsmanship), “Punk Couture” (haute hardware including studs, spikes, chains, zippers, padlocks, safety pins, and razor blades), “D.I.Y. Style” (recycled materials from trash culture), and “La Mode Destroy” (rip-it-to-shreds and deconstructionist fashion).

The approximately fifty designers featured in the exhibition range from Miguel Adrover and Azzedine Alaïa to Yohji Yamamoto and Vivienne Westwood.

SFAM BY NIGHT

Last Saturday evening (January 12th, 2013) saw the kick off of the third edition of SFAM (Sustainable food and art marketplace) at The Conscious Hotel on Overtoom, Amsterdam. The event’s purpose is to showcase locally made products that have strong green credentials, such as being organic.
Although organic products per se have enjoyed a huge rise in popularity in recent years, they are not without controversy. Some institutions, such as the Wagningen UR, maintain that organic production processes can lead to higher consumption of raw materials and higher CO2 emissions, which is particularly true in meat farming.

However, Thalita van Ogdorp, one of SFAM’s co-founders, has a plan. “By bringing together local sustainable pioneers and “bonvivants” in a fun and innovative space we want to replace the perception of organic products being green-washed rip offs that are only accessible to rich, yoga practicing yuppies with the understanding that they can indeed be affordable, good for the environment and very innovative”.
There is in fact a large focus on the aspects of sustainability and waste reduction, which form additional core values of SFAM and thus lead to third edition of SFAM being hosted in the city’s first sustainable run eco-hotel, The Conscious Hotel.
By hosting SFAM, The Conscious Hotel aimed to boost its profile among a perceptive audience, which is well connected, more environmentally conscious and eager to experience new products.
