Edward Steichen – In High Fashion the Condé Nast Years, 1923–1937 from the 28th of June at Foam.

This exhibition, with more than 200 unique vintage photos, represents a high point in Steichen’s long photographic career. The works that he made throughout this period for the influential Vogue and Vanity Fair magazines are some of the most impressive creations of the twentieth century. They have been brought together especially for this exhibition and are being shown for the first time in the Netherlands.

Edward Steichen (1879-1973) was already a famous painter and photographer on both sides of the Atlantic when, in early 1923, he was offered one of the most prestigious and certainly the most lucrative position in photography’s commercial domain – that of chief photographer for Condé Nast’s influential and highly regarded magazines Vogue and Vanity Fair. Summoning up his exceptional talents, and fired with prodigious enthusiasm, Steichen spent the next fifteen years showcasing the culture of that era and its most prominent exponents from the realms of literature, journalism, dance, sport, politics, theatre and film. It was for his images of haute couture, though, that Steichen remains best known.

Exhibition will run until the 6th of September 2013.

| BAS KOSTERS. FUCK, LOVE, YEAH! |

Bas-Kosters-banner-hoopdoopmagazine-sabrina-van-den-heuvel

Bas Kosters is a fashion designer based in the Netherland. Bas was born in Zutphen, The Netherlands in 1977. After graduating on Fashion and Clothing at the Rijn IJssel College Arnhem in 1997, he attended Fashion Design at AKI Academy of Fine Arts in Enschede where he earned his degree in 2001 with the collection ‘Containerkoninginnen’ (Dumpster Queens). Bio

Everything started by playing with dolls and drawing.

As a kid Bas Kosters entertained himself with appearances and imaginary stories.

I met him few weeks ago, during the Saint Germain Gallery party for the presentation of a documentary and photo portfolio, homage to one of his latest works, his collection Love, Fuck Yeah! When I saw him he was gently throwing heart shaped red papers on the ground.
We sat outside in the fresh air, drinking white wine, smoking a cigarette, surrounded by the portraits Sabrina van den Heuvel took of him.
“A punk rough reportage that brings forth my life in photographs” he says about the photographer and her way of portraying people.

As a teenager Kosters was really into music and musicians.
“They have a clear vision of their image, movements, aesthetics, graphics, how to present a person, a message, an attitude. I liked Nina Hagen, Army of Lovers…” says Kosters. “Music is a composition of notes, style, and image. Musicians are people not afraid to show themselves, to be the centre of attention.”
