STAGES – Dorhout Mees Fall Winter 2016.

STAGES – Esther Dorhout Mees presented her new collection at Amsterdam Fashion Week. The atmosphere of the show with a live music orchestra and the models walking trough the smoke, brought us in magical place where romantic damsels in fluctuating dresses walk together with knights in velvet armors. A stage where the harmony of colors meet the materials and everything is so much in tune. Bravo Esther we love your collection!

Esther Dorhout Mees showed her ninth collection under the name Dorhout Mees. Inspiration for this Fall Winter 2016 collection entitled ” STAGES “ comes from theaters in decay.

Decay, velvet, crushed concrete, handmade shoes inspired by satin pointe, contrasts in form and material, the collection reflects a combination of extremes. Esther Dorhout Mees became fascinated by places red velvet curtains gave access to a wide variety of performances night after night, in beautiful costumes and impressive decors, that now became spaces of silence and oblivion.

Theaters where a distant echo applause echoed against the weathered walls of the scene. In the collection “STAGES” we see elements of its heyday as well as the period after. Costumes, corsets, and shapes of the theater itself. iIs defining elements of the silhouette, theater cloths fall asymmetrically along side the body and the rounded forms of endless velvet chairs are reflected in the sihouette. Deconstruced silks and velvet covered seat buttons are incorporated in hand crafted materials.

” The combination of the greatness of a grand Theater where once performances in beautiful costumes and decors where created
in contrast with the decline and melancholic oblivion of these particular theaters in decay fascinates me endlessly , ” says Esther Dorhout Mees

The label Dorhout Mees was founded in 2010 by Dutch designer Esther Louise Dorhout Mees. After her study at ArtEZ Institute of the Arts, in Arnhem, and many years of working as a designer for well-established labels, such as a.o Bruuns Bazaar and Tommy Hilfiger The time had come to start a label of her own.

Dorhout Mees is distinctive in its elegant style, and has a touch of nonchalance. It’s highly feminine, but easy to wear. Each collection of Dorhout Mees is based on three different components: High Fashion, ready to wear and quality Basics with a twist.

The base of all collections is silk, delicate silk knits and prints. Fascination of the constant interaction between body and fabric, covering and uncovering the female body is always the starting point. Contradictions in structures, silhouette and textures are the essence of the collections.
