Sweden already boasts some of the most exciting names in modern psychedelia – see Goat and Josefin Ohrn & The Liberation – and now, rising out of a desolate winter to join the ranks is NONN (the moniker of Christian Eldefors) with his brooding post-punk/coldwave. London label Fuzz Club Records will be releasing the debut self-titled LP May 26th but until then are sharing the video for the first single ‘Need’

NONN spent the winter of 2016 living in a warehouse-turned-rehearsal-space in a gloomy corner of Stockholm and his bleak, icy surroundings inevitably became a huge influence on these recordings – blurring the line between sharp, glacial post-punk and the industrial electronic aesthetic of the 80s. The tracks are influenced as much by Kraftwerk, Movement-era New Order and Suicide as they are akin to modern outfits such as label-mates The Underground Youth and Throw Down Bones.

Although contemporary in feel, it’s hard to listen to these tracks and not picture them sound-tracking moments of sheer euphoria in some sticky-floored warehouse in 80s Berlin. It’s got it all; the minimal droning synths, kosmische drum-machine percussion, jangling post-punk guitars and echoing forlorn vocals.

There’s something here for lovers of psych-rock, post-punk and electronica alike and the first single ‘Need’ is certain to whet appetites across the board.

“Brutalist post-punk shapes and slabs of concrete sound that carry astonishing weight.” CLASH
